Sabrina Mertens was born in Hamburg in 1985. She trained as an Audiovisual Media Designer in Berlin and Fürstenwalde/Eberswalde. Afterwards she worked independently in the audiovisual field (mainly as a videographer and editor) as well as a freelancer in the technical department for DW-TV in Berlin. In 2011 Mertens began to be an independent filmmaker. Since 2015 she has been enrolled in the study course Directing at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in Ludwigsburg. She writes screenplays and develops concepts for innovative film forms. Her work ranges between experimental, documentary and feature film and has been shown at numerous film festivals. Her debut feature film TIME OF MOULTING (FELLWECHSELZEIT) had it's world premiere in 2020 at Film Festival Max-Ophüls Preis in Saarbrücken (Germany) and it's international premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. She is currently working on her diploma project.
