Begründung der Jury
A film that confronts us with a reality that all too often remains hidden in the shadows of public perception.
The director delves deep into investigative files about the murder of a young man, scours archives, and simultaneously confronts us with images of a seemingly idyllic small town and emotionally charged moments in German football history.
The documentary is the director’s exploration of a dark chapter in her hometown. She not only examines the crime in detail, but the film also gives a voice to the bereaved, who, in addition to their pain, had to witness how all evidence of the racist attack on their son was increasingly deleted from the case files.
What this film achieves is more than just a reconstruction of a single crime, a single act. It is a ruthless approach to the structural racism that is rooted in our society – it is a call to call out racist acts for what they are every day and to combat them with all means at our disposal.
