Our jury presents the Deadline_Award to the best genre film. Productions from all countries can take part in this competition.
A dreamcatcher on the door, and a doormat saying „Witch please“ invites you in. Everything about Aura’s house suggests she is a witch. But it seems to be nothing more than decoration. When she suddenly receives a visit from an elderly lady one evening, she has no idea what is about to go down. Director Hoku Uchiyama shows at breakneck speed what kind of hell can break loose when a real witch meets an imposter. If there’s a film in the selection that not only understands its genre but also sees through it, one that blends horror, atmosphere and humour so effortlessly, then we’re more than happy to honour it with the Deadline Award. Sabrina the witch, run for cover! Our winner is WHITCH – or as Michael Orth puts it: the perfect short film. We completely agree. A popular decision?
Probably. An easy decision? Perhaps. An award well deserved? Absolutely. Congratulations to the most evil and at the same time likeable witches!
