The 1990s: In the chaos of the post-socialist East, Andreas, an East German car mechanic, and Alexej, a former Soviet border-crosser, smuggle German cars into Russia. As West German investors buy up the former GDR and the smuggling business in Russia is dominated by corrupt officials and organized crime, their hopes for a new future collapse. Andreas and Alexej realize too late they never stood a chance in this new world.
