A warm welcome to the Landshut Short Film Festival 2026. I would like to extend a special welcome to the filmmakers from all over the world who have announced their visit. The fact that filmmakers are always present on site is what creates the special atmosphere of the festival. Although the festival has established itself internationally, particularly among experts, it has remained locally rooted and accessible. We owe this success above all to the artistic director, Michael Orth. Around ten percent of the films submitted make it into the program, this year 221 films from 36 countries. With the eight competition categories that have emerged over the years, Michael Orth not only puts his stamp on the festival, but also clearly meets the tastes of the audience. After the “dip” during the Corona pandemic, audience numbers have long since returned to 2019 levels.

I would like to thank the jury for their great work. Many thanks to the entire team for organizing this wonderful festival, above all Birgit Horn, who, as organizational director, ensures that everything runs smoothly as usual.

While the showdown has begun for me as mayor, I wish the Landshut Short Film Festival many more curtain rises for exciting, funny, thought-provoking, or shocking films.
