DaHome Competition

„Heimat“ – a word that radiates familiarity, yet means something different to everyone. It can be a place we know, where we grew up, or one we have created for ourselves. But home can also be a feeling, shaped by people, memories, or experiences. We can find a home – or find ourselves within it.

This year’s DaHome programme takes us on a journey through different countries and cultures, offering new perspectives on home beyond our own perceptions.

Whether it is in the United States during the GOLD RUSH, where a new home is built from scratch,
in Kurdistan, where the only home is fiercely defended during a drought (YARÊ), in Venezuela, where long-abandoned family roots are rediscovered (UN TORO LLAMA), in Germany, where someone nervously embarks on the journey to their perceived place of belonging (TREIBSAND), or at a Bavarian folk festival, where the view from the sidelines turns well-rehearsed traditions into something both strange and familiar – these short films show that home isn’t something rigid. It evolves, grows with us, and is something we can create and share.

In collaboration with the District of Lower Bavaria, the 25th Landshut Short Film Festival invites you to explore this modern interpretation of the „Heimatfilm“ genre. The five nominated films can be seen exclusively as part of the DaHome special programme. The jury of the 25th Landshut Short Film Festival will be present at this special screening. After the screening, we warmly invite you to a discussion and get-together. Because „Heimat“ is where people come together.
