DOC Block 3

Landscapes are shaped by people and shape people in return.

With breathtaking speed, the train hurtles through the peaceful countryside. Hills and valleys rush past – until suddenly, an obstacle appears: a tree blocks the tracks. Fate takes its course. Fire brigade, paramedics, police – they arrive, do their best. But it is in vain. Lifeless, the small plastic figure remains in the middle of the miniature landscape. Like a sun god, the head of the model maker rises above a plastic mountain ridge. His REIGN over the world he has created is omnipotent. He could have prevented the disaster – or never created it in the first place. But God’s ways are unfathomable, and human playfulness knows no bounds.

„To return to a place requires two things: having been there once – and having left it.“ A childhood spent within safe walls, a supposed little family idyll. But the years pass, the child grows up, the family falls apart. The house was long ago sold, remodelled, made unfamiliar. So why is it remembered as a place of belonging, even though it never truly felt like home? The HOME SICK girl from back then picks up her camera and embarks on a journey into the past.

A motorway service station – wouldn’t one expect fast-food restaurants, petrol stations? But there is more here. An event hall for 5000 guests, the setting for loud metal concerts, directly beside the Angel Path, leading from the motorway chapel to the Marian grotto. The ErlebnisRasthof Geiselwind is a place that surprises and unsettles, where bleakness and beauty, solitude and community merge into one. We find ourselves in this place of transition for EIGHT MORE HOURS. where fleeting encounters occur – with people whom fate has brought here. Strangers with whom we nevertheless share much.

Brief, documentary glimpses into spaces and places where people simply are. As we observe them, we may perhaps find ourselves.
